Speaker Bio

André van der Braak is Professor of Comparative Philosophy of Religion at the Faculty of Religion and Theology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2004 on a study on Nietzsche and Zen. He published a.o. Nietzsche and Zen: Self-Overcoming without a Self (Lanham, MD: Lexington Books, 2011); Religion and Social Cohesion: Western, Chinese and Intercultural Perspectives (co-edited with Wei Dedong and Caifang Zhu; Amsterdam: VU University Press, 2015); and Reimagining Zen in a Secular Age: Charles Taylor and Zen Buddhism in the West (Leiden: Brill, 2020).He published several articles on ayahuasca and is currently working on a manuscript entitled Liquid Divinity: Epistemological and Ontological Explorations of Ayahuasca Religiosity in the West(to be published by Lexington Books in late 2022 or early 2023).
